Mrs. Doubtfire Returns to Detroit

A Nostalgic, Heartfelt Comedy for Today’s Families

By Macaroni Kid Livingston September 24, 2026

HELLOOOO, 90’s kids! She’s back! The internationally acclaimed musical Mrs. Doubtfire is returning to Detroit, this time at the historic Fox Theatre, and it’s the perfect chance to share one of our favorite childhood films with our own kids.

If you grew up in the 90s like I did, the 1993 movie was a staple. Robin Williams, the laughs, the chaos, the heart. Seeing it live on stage brings all of that nostalgia rushing back.

Mrs. Doubtfire

❤️ A Personal Review: Why This Show Hit Home for Us

My teen son and I saw Mrs. Doubtfire the last time it toured through Detroit, and we genuinely loved it. Sitting in the theater together brought back memories of watching the movie when he and his three siblings were little — the kind of memories that sneak up on you in the best way.

The musical stays impressively true to the film. The humor is big, the performances are lively, and the emotional moments land exactly where they should. But families should know: the story centers around divorce and custody. Those themes can be heavy, especially for anyone currently navigating those situations. It’s not strictly a comedy — and that’s part of what makes it meaningful.

Overall, we adored how closely it aligns with the movie and how alive the performance feels. We’re excited to see it again this fall.

We love it so much that we are excited to be giving away a FAMILY FOUR PACK of tickets to see the show.

ENTRIES ARE BEING ACCEPTED AT THE RAILS & TRAILS Community Day in PINCKNEY on September 26th!

🎟️ About the Show

Out-of-work actor Daniel Hillard will do anything for his kids. After losing custody in a messy divorce, he invents the warm, witty alter ego Euphegenia Doubtfire — a Scottish nanny who quickly becomes part of the family. As Daniel juggles his double life, Mrs. Doubtfire teaches him more about fatherhood, love, and resilience than he ever expected.

Critics have praised the musical as:
